Choosing Infertility Clinics: Reproductive Immunologist

There are many Infertility Clinics available throughout the country. Infertility clinics provide many different types of specialists in one place, making it easier for you and your partner to get the help and information you need. Many of these clinics provide a reproductive immunologist. A reproductive immunologist is a person who specializes in infertility problems caused by the immune system. These problems may include an individual's problems with asthma, diabetes, thyroid problems, fibromyalgia or arthritis.

What a Reproductive Immunologist Does

To begin you will make an appointment with a reproductive immunologist at your fertility clinic. The immunologist will ask you about your previous medical history. This will most likely include every illness you have had in the past. This will help them to determine if your fertility problem is immune related or not. You will also need to provide them with a history of how long you have been trying to conceive and all fertility attempts which have been made, and how many miscarriages you have had, if any.

Once the immunologist has all of your information they may then order a series of blood tests to determine if there are any problems with your immune system. This will include a test to determine if the natural killer immune cells are present in the uterus. The natural killer cells help the immune system to fight off infections. If they are present in the uterus, this may be one reason you are having problems becoming and staying pregnant. The cells can kill the embryo before it has a chance to become viable, which can result in a miscarriage. If these cells are present, there are some medications that can be prescribed to try to suppress the immune system in the early stages of pregnancy. These medications may include aspirin, heparin, prednisone, Enbrel and immunoglobulin G. These medications are usually not used unless you have had at least three consecutive miscarriages.

Choosing a Center with a Reproductive Immunologist

If you are looking at infertility clinics, it may be a good idea to choose one that offers the help of a reproductive immunologist. The most important thing is to choose a center that offers a friendly and comfortable environment. The clinic should offer you a number of different treatment options, including in virto fertilization. By choosing a center with a reproductive immunologist you will have a better chance of determining why you may be having problems conceiving a child or why you are having miscarriages. They can then try to correct the problem, if it is something that can be fixed.

If you are having a difficult time concieving a child, talk to your doctor about recommendations on a good fertility clinic in your area. It can be a stressful process to go through, but this type of help may be the only option.
