Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT): How to Improve Your Chance of Success

The Gamete Intra-Fallopian Transfer (GIFT) is an assisted-conception process, which is very similar to the In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) in the way collection of eggs and sperms is done. In this process, several eggs are collected from the ovaries and are injected into a thin lithe tube, called the catheter, along with the sperm to be used. Then, through a medical procedure called laparoscopy, the gametes (both the eggs and the sperms) are infused into the fallopian tubes. The process of the Gamete Intra-fallopian transfer process begins with the collection of eggs and sperms (similar to IVF).

The key difference between the two methods is that in the IVF procedure, the gamete mix is nurtured for a day, in the laboratory, until the fertilization occurs; whereas in the GIFT process, the unfertilized eggs, along with the sperm, are injected into the fallopian tube by the laparoscopic process. It is inside the fallopian tubes that the natural fertilization takes place. The entire surgical procedure is carried out under general anesthesia. Similar to the IVF method, the Gamete Intra-Fallopian Transfer procedure is carried out by synthetically inducing the ovulation process by means of hormone drugs. You can increase the chances of the GIFT by adopting following measures.

Fertility Cleansing

The success of the GIFT procedure largely depends on healthy eggs and accurate implantation of the embryos. The life cycle of your eggs is usually about ninety days and care must be taken during this period, as the life of the eggs can be easily affected by your diet and stress levels. A fertility cleansing process, immediately after your periods, will remove the stagnant blood and old tissues from your uterus. Also, try to lead a stress free life during the GIFT process.

Nutrition

Once the cleansing process is carried out, you will have to focus on supplying proper nourishment to the fertilized egg. This is achieved through a diet in combination with natural herbs and other dietary supplements. High-nutrition food is vital in production of healthy eggs and proper implantation of the embryo. A prenatal multivitamin is of great help in providing the proper nutrition you need for the health of the egg.

Acupuncture and Hypnosis

Surveys have shown that the women who undergo the acupuncture, within a day after the transfer of the embryo, increase their chances of a successful implantation as compared to those who do not opt for the acupuncture procedure. Hypnosis is another process that has been useful in increasing the success rate of the GIFT procedure.

Refrain from Smoking and Drinking

The conception process is delicate, and it needs to be timed correctly. Apart from maintaining a healthy diet, you also need to stay away from smoking tobacco and alcohol consumption. A cigarette contains more than 4,000 chemicals, which can affect your body in more than one way, including your fertility and success of the GIFT. The same holds true for your male partner too. Cigarette smoke and alcohol affects the quality of sperm his body produces. Thus, it is important for both of you to stop or greatly reduce smoking and drinking habits.
