Chemical pregnancies can occur in women who are trying to get pregnant and indicate a miscarriage before week 5 of pregnancy. About 15% to 20% of women that become pregnant may experience a chemical pregnancy. There are some possible causes of chemical pregnancy, so you may prevent an early miscarriage if you make sure you are healthy.

Preventing Chemical Pregnancies

Even if the precise causes of chemical pregnancy are not known, there are some possible causes of early miscarriage. You should make sure you are in good health to prevent a chemical pregnancy:

  • Check your hormone levels, especially progesterone, as a low level of progesterone has been associated with early miscarriage
  • Get treatment is you have hypothyroidism
  • Get treatment if your luteal phase is under 12 days
  • Get an OBGyn checkup, making sure you don’t have any uterus fibroids
  • Make sure you don’t have any STDs such as herpes or Chlamydia
  • Consume a healthy diet
  • Avoid stress

In some cases, you cannot prevent a chemical pregnancy, as the sperm cells and the egg involved may not have satisfactory quality. An early pregnancy may also be idiopathic, so it cannot be prevented.
