Menstral Cycle Abnormalities that May Cause Inferility: Menometrorrhagia

Some women have menstrual cycle abnormalities that may cause infertility, such as menometrorrhagia, or excessive uterine bleeding. This bleeding can occur during your normal menstrual cycle or at another time of the month. There are a number of problems that can cause menometrorrhagia. These include endometriosis, hormonal imbalance, uterine fibroid and cancer.

Menometrorrhagia can cause fertility problems due to the irregular monthly bleeding, such as the eggs being released at the wrong time, not at all, or being flushed out of the body with the bleeding. Menometrorrhagia can also cause a hormonal imbalance, which can lead to infertility. Here's a closer look at some of the possible treatments for menometrorrhagia:

Hormone Treatment

If you suffer from menometrorrhagia due to a hormonal imbalance, your doctor may prescribe hormones to help regulate your system. Your body may be making too many or not enough hormones. You can have these checked with a simple blood test.

Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs

NSAIDs are usually the first treatment option for menometrorrhagia. These anti-inflammatory drugs can reduce heavy bleeding by up to 45 percent. These are taken for five days during the regular cycle to reduce heaving bleeding.

Oral Contraceptive Pills

Oral contraceptive pills are also used for regulating and reducing monthly bleeding. This will not help with fertility, however, since they prevent eggs from being released. If you are trying to conceive this is not a good treatment option.

Hysterectomy

In the most severe cases of menometrorrhagia, a hysterectomy may be needed. This may be necessary if no other treatment works. A hysterectomy is used as a last option, especially if you are trying to become pregnant.

If you are suffering from heavy bleeding, you should see your doctor and find the exact cause of the problem.
