Anthony J. Caruso, MD, MPH

Anthony J. Caruso, MD, MPH picture

Dr. Anthony J. Caruso is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is Board Certified in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility and also holds a Master's Degree in Public Health.

His clinical research interests include development of evidence-based research protocols for ovarian stimulation, the impact of endometriosis on infertile couples, and treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Dr. Caruso is an expert in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and he is also interested in the preservation of fertility through egg & embryo maintenance.

David Cohen, MD

Dr. David Cohen is Associate Professor and Chief of the Section of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility and Associate Faculty of the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago.

Since joining the faculty at the University of Chicago in 1996, Dr. Cohen has participated in many educational activities. He has acted as the Director for the Section's In-Vitro Fertilization Program and Oocyte Cryopreservation Program, as well as for the Departmental Grand Rounds and the Departmental Journal Club. He is a member of the Pritzker School of Medicine's Admissions Committee, the Summer Research Steering Committee, and the University of Chicago's Institutional Review Board.

Some of Dr. Cohen's professional associations include the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Chicago Area Reproductive Endocrinologists, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and the Endocrine Society. He is board certified in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility.

His interests include:

  • Fertility preservation for cancer patients

Dr. Cohen performs surgery for the Section of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, teaches, and has authored many papers. He is considered an expert in his field.

Helen Kim, MD

Helen Kim, MD, is Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of the In Vitro Fertilization Program at The University of Chicago.

Her areas of specialization include:

  • Infertility, assisted reproductive technologies including in-vitro fertilization with donor eggs or sperm or gestational surrogates
  • Menstrual disorders including premature ovarian failure, polycystic ovary syndrome, and loss of menstural cycles resulting form stress, malnutrition, or excessive exercise

Her current research focus is to reveal the mechanisms by which neuronal and ovarian GnRH are differentially regulated. Dr. Kim’s research has been funded by grants from the Reproductive Scientist Development Program, Burroughs Wellcome Fund, American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Kim's professional memberships include the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Endocrine Society, the American Board of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, and the Society for Gynecologic Investigation.

She is on the editorial board of Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, and is an ad-hoc reviewer for Fertility and Sterility. She has also served as an expert panel member for babycenter.com.

Mary Stephenson, MD, MSc

Mary Stephenson, MD, MSc picture

Dr. Stephenson is Professor and Director of the Recurrent Pregnancy Loss Program. She brings an international reputation and experience in recurrent pregnancy loss. In 1992, she founded the largest multi-disciplinary Recurrent Pregnancy Loss Program in North America at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

Dr. Stephenson is a clinical trialist and translational researcher who has established collaboration with scientists throughout North America. Her research presently studies factors associated with recurrent pregnancy loss, genetic causes of miscarriage, thrombophilias in reproduction and the pharmacokinetic characteristics of heparins and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) during pregnancy. Dr. Stephenson is the Principal Investigator of an international randomized controlled trial assessing the efficacy of IVIG in overcoming secondary recurrent miscarriage.

Dr. Stephenson specializes in seeing patients with:

  • a history of recurrent pregnancy loss
  • unexplained fetal demise
  • thrombophilia issues related to reproduction
  • autoimmune disease for pre-pregnancy evaluation
  • infertility
  • recurrent failed attempts at IVF

Arthur Haney, MD

Arthur Haney, MD picture

Dr. Haney is Chairman of Obstetrics & Gynecology and the Catherine Lindsay Dobson Professor in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Chicago.

The recipient of numerous honors, including a Distinguished Professor Award from Duke in 1986, Haney has served as president of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, as president of the Congress of the International Federation of Fertility Societies, as well as an examiner and director of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

He has published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals, authored dozens of review articles and book chapters, and served as editor for the 9th edition of the most widely used textbook for medical students and residents, Danforth's Obstetrics and Gynecology.

He also has served as a consultant on fertility issues to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the National Institute on Environmental Health Sciences, the National Cancer Institute, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and the President's Council on Bioethics.

Dr. Haney specializes in abdominal cerclage.
