Ovulation Calendar

So you want to get pregnant and someone to told you that you should use an ovulation calendar and that is a good advice. By using an ovulation calendar you will be able to keep track of your periods and with some minor calculations learn when you ovulate. The main purpose of the calendar is to find out when you are most fertile. What days that you are most likely to get pregnant.

When will you be most fertile?

About 11 to 18 days before your next period is when you are the most fertile. To make an ovulation calendar you can use the calendar on your computer, cell phone, or the paper one on your desk. Circle the day that your period begins, you should do this for 6 to 12 months to get an accurate picture of the duration of your menstrual cycle. You will need to count the number of days from the first day of bleeding until the day before your next period. Don't guess or assume, you need to be accurate about the length of your cycle, if you are a day or two off that could be the difference between getting pregnant and not.

The next thing that you will need to do is to count the number of days in the shortest cycle of the time that you recorded and subtract 18. Whatever number that you come up with, take it, and start counting that number of days beginning with the first day of your next period and that should be the first day that you are fertile.

So now you have the first day, let's figure out the last day. Subtract 11 from the number days of your longest cycle. On the first day of your next period, take the difference and count that many days forward and mark your calendar because that will be the last day that you will probably be fertile.

Don't rely on your ovulation calendar for birth control.

One thing that should be noted is that if you are on any form of birth control that you need to stop taking it before you can start an ovulation calendar. If you want to get pregnant then the upside is that you can have all the sex that you want during your fertile time frame. Often and frequent is the best way to achieve your goal of pregnancy.

If you don't want to get pregnant then you will either have to abstain from intercourse during your fertile time window or use a condom or diaphragm, but it should be noted that an ovulation calendar is not a reliable form of birth control.
