If you are considering in vitro fertilization (IVF)—a process where your eggs are removed from your ovaries and mixed with sperm in a laboratory dish until fertilization occurs and then implanted into your uterus—embryo freezing may be an option.
The IVF procedure typically results in extra embryos (fertilized eggs), that are not transferred to you in your first IVF cycle. You may choose to preserve the embryos by freezing them so that they can be transferred to your uterus later, should the initial IVF attempt not work or should you decide to have additional pregnancies in the future.
