Are there risks associated with Egg Donation?

What are the risks of donating eggs? Is there a chance a woman who donates eggs will not be able to conceive a child as a result of the donation?

There are some risks associated with egg donation, such as complications of gonadotropins in the form of torsion, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, and a rare possibility of infection or bleeding from retrieval. A woman that donates her eggs will be able to conceive after donating, although we do not recommend donating more than 6 times.

Risk of donating eggs is relatively low-risk, however there is a very small risk of certain complications including ovarian hyperstimulation, risks associated with the egg retrieval procedure including risk of anesthesia, bleeding and infection. These risks are best discussed with the physician who will be caring for you. There is no reason that a woman should not be able to have a child after donating eggs.
