Is in vitro fertilization a possibility if I had two previous ectopic pregnancies?

I am 30 years old and have had 2 ectopic pregnancies. The first one was in my left tube. The doctors were able to leave it and in 2010 my daughter was born. The second occurred in my right tube in 2013, but because it ruptured it had to be removed. Is in vitro fertilization (IVF) an option?

Yes, IVF is an excellent option in your situation. Because you are young you have a very good chance of success.

Hello and thank you for your question. Yes, IVF is the best option for you since you are at high risk of ectopic recurrence. IVF bypasses the fallopian tubes. Physicians obtain the eggs with a procedure that is done in the office under the guidance of an ultrasound. After fertilization in the lab and culture of the embryos for 3-6 days, the embryo(s) are implanted in the womb. There is an extremely low risk of ectopic after IVF. However, the procedure has other pros and cons that should be reviewed by your reproductive endocrinologist.
