Can I have a tubal reversal at age 40?

I was 21 yrs old when I had a Pomeroy tubal ligation; it was done an hour after giving birth. Now, I'm almost 40 yrs old and would like to have a tubal reversal. Is it possible? I still have regular periods.

You should be able to have it reversed, but your age and other medical conditions could be a factor in you becoming pregnant. Please check with your OBGYN or an RE for more information.

Sure, it is possible. We would recommend checking your hormone levels before you proceed with surgery to make sure you have healthy eggs left at age 40 y/o. Your partner should also have his sperm evaluated before undergoing tubal reversal surgery.

That is a very common type of tubal ligation. At our facility, approximately 30% of patients have the same type of tubal ligation you describe. It is possible to reverse that and become pregnant at age 40. To better understand your chances of conceiving after a tubal reversal, consult with a fertility specialist.

I had the Hulka clips put on during a tubal ligation procedure when I was 24 years old. I am now 30 and my husband and I want another child. We are uncertain if my irregular periods are being caused by some of the Hulka clips coming off, or maybe the tube has grown around them. Is this likely and would either cause irregular periods? Also, would tubal reversal be a good option if we are considering having another child?
