I have epilepsy. Can I still undergo the IVF hormone treatment that has to be done in the beginning of the whole procedure?

I am 29 years old and in good health but my husband has a very low sperm count, although the ones he has are very good. We are looking at IVF but I am scared that since I am being medicated for epilepsy (Keppra 125 in the morning and 250mg at night) this may cause a problem when the time comes for the hormone injections. Can you please tell me if I will encounter problems with this?

Thank you so much in advance!

Your medication shouldn't affect the IVF process. Some meds, however, can reach the fetus during a pregnancy. So, you would want to speak with your physician/OBGYN to ensure the medications you are taking will be safe to use once you become pregnant.

It is usually best to discuss with your neurologist or a high-risk OB physician about the epilepsy medications that you are on, and the effects in pregnancy. But in regards to the IVF treatment, the medications are not known to affect the patient's response or outcome of IVF.
