I have hydrosalpinx and want to have my tubal ligation reversed. Is that possible?

I had a tubal ligation in 2003 and a few years ago I had an ectopic pregnancy. A year ago I had another ectopic pregnancy and then after being examined and tested, the doctor found that I have hydrosalpinx. If I have a tubal reversal can I get pregnant? I would like to get pregnant again.

It might be possible to get pregnant after a tubal reversal; however, with a history of having this done 12 or 13 years ago, two ectopic pregnancies and a hydrosalpinx, it is probable that in vitro fertilization (IVF) will be a better choice. IVF will enable you to get more eggs fertilized sooner and give you a much higher pregnancy rate in a shorter period of time. It will be important to determine if the hydrosalpinx is in the tube near the uterus. If so, it might be beneficial to remove it before doing IVF. If the hydrosalpinx is distal to (away from) the site of tubal ligation, then it is likely not necessary to remove it. You will be able to make the best decision if you see a reproductive endocrinologist and surgeon who can review your clinical situation in detail.

It is possible you could have a tubal reversal; however, if you have a large hydrosalpinx, then in vitro fertilization may be your best option. You would need to have your records reviewed to determine the exact cause of the hydrosalpinx. If the tubal closure is only from the ectopic then surgery may be beneficial. If the hydrosalpinx is from an infection and involves both tubes then in vitro may be your best option.

I had the Hulka clips put on during a tubal ligation procedure when I was 24 years old. I am now 30 and my husband and I want another child. We are uncertain if my irregular periods are being caused by some of the Hulka clips coming off, or maybe the tube has grown around them. Is this likely and would either cause irregular periods? Also, would tubal reversal be a good option if we are considering having another child?
