There are several factors that affect your ability to get pregnant after tubal ligation. The ability to perform a reversal depends on the type of tubal ligation performed and the amount of tube that remains. The ability to get pregnant will also be affected by ovarian reserve, female age, and sperm count. To determine if you are a good candidate for tubal reversal vs. IVF as an alternative, we would recommend an evaluation of all of those factors.

Depending on the method used for the tubal ligation, they may very well be reversible. This would require discussing your particular case with a fertility specialist who performs tubal reversals.

Yes. What is possibly equally or more important than the type of tubal ligation you had (e.g., whether the tube was tied, burned or both) and how much tube is left to reconnect, relates to your age. Overall fertility declines with age, with a slow decline from age 30-35 and a more significant decline to age 40 and steep decline thereafter.

Yes, the length of time from the tubal ligation is not as important as the type of tubal ligation, how much normal healthy fallopian tubes remain for reanastomosis, the woman's age (older women have less of a chance of conceiving and a higher risk of miscarriage), her partner's semen parameters (should do a semen analysis), and whether the woman is ovulatory.

I had the Hulka clips put on during a tubal ligation procedure when I was 24 years old. I am now 30 and my husband and I want another child. We are uncertain if my irregular periods are being caused by some of the Hulka clips coming off, or maybe the tube has grown around them. Is this likely and would either cause irregular periods? Also, would tubal reversal be a good option if we are considering having another child?
