Ovarian Cysts and Infertility: Dermoid Cyst

Ovarian Cysts can cause infertility in women. Demoid cysts are found in the ovaries and contain multiple types of tissues, such as hair or bone tissue. These cysts can develop at any age, but usually appear during the reproductive age. They are usually benign, with only around 2 percent becoming cancerous.

Detection

Many women who develop cysts on their ovaries will have some pain associated with them. When the demoid cyst becomes painful it will mean that the cyst has burst or twisted. When you visit your doctor, he or she will most likely perform an ultrasound to determine the cause of the pain. If they determine that there are demoid cysts on the ovaries, they should then be removed.

Treatment

The doctor will perform surgery to remove them. In some cases women can develop fertility problems if there is too much scar tissue developed inside the ovaries. This is not very common, and the cysts may cause more problems if they are not taken care of. The best way to prevent infertility problems is to make sure that your doctor is trained to remove the cysts and the procedure is done in a timely manner.
