Egg Donation Success Rates

Egg donation is when a woman supplies one or more of her eggs to be used for assisted pregnancy. Success rates for the procedure can depend on several factors, including age, health and the amount of embryos transferred. Read on to learn more about egg donation success rates.

Success of Egg Donations

There are three important factors that contribute to the success rate of an egg donation. One important factor is age, and the procedure is generally more successful for donors under the age of 35. Though not a proven fact, it is thought that the the younger the donor is, the better the chance for success. The age of the recipient is not a contributing factor for success, unless she is over the age of 50.

Health of the recipient's uterus may also determine success, and any problems with the uterus may prevent pregnancy. Another important factor is the number of embryos that are transferred to the receiver's uterus. Two egg transfers give approximately a 45% chance of success, while three egg transfers give nearly a 60% chance of a successful pregnancy. Transferring three embryos may carry an increased risk for multiple births, and many recipients choose to avoid this risk by transferring less embryos.
