First few weeks
The first few weeks of your pregnancy it is hard to fathom that you are really pregnant. For now, the embryo that is inside you doesn't look much like a baby yet, it's a cluster of cells that is growing rapidly. The outside layer of the cells is going to be the placenta, and the inside layer the embryo. By the six week your baby begins to look like a tadpole, but by the seventh week big changes are happening inside your womb. The heart and lungs are developing and so are the facial features and the brain and spinal cord are growing from the neural tube.
By the 12th week you baby is completely formed. Your baby has arms, hands, fingers and even toes! He or she can open and close its fist and mouth. If you are experiencing morning sickness now is the time that you will notice that it is starting to dissipate.
By the 20th week your baby can hear the thump, thump, thump of your heart beat, the growl of your stomach when it's hungry, and even your voice. Your baby will even cover his or her ears with its hands if a loud sound is made near you. And all that activity inside of you is your baby punching, kicking, turning, and wiggling.
By the 25th week your baby's skin changes from transparent to opaque and the heartbeat can be heard with the aid of stethoscope. And you are probably feeling huge, you are growing as rapidly as your baby, but this is normal, your uterus takes up have of your abdomen and you've probably gained a little over 20 pounds by the 37th week you should stop gaining weight.
And finally, the 40th week you should be ready to give birth now, but you should know that only 5% or women give birth on their due dates. Don't stress out if your due date comes and goes, your baby will come when he or she is ready. Stay calm and relax, your baby will be here before you know it.
