I am HIV positive, could the disease affect my ability to become pregnant?

I am HIV positive and my partner is negative. We've been together for close to one year now. The first time we wanted to have sex I told him that I would like for us to use a condom, but he refused. He doesn't know my status and has been pressuring me to have a baby with him. Will HIV affect my ability to become pregnant? Also, how do I tell him the news? We've been having unprotected sex and I haven't been able to conceive.

I’m sorry you are in such a difficult situation. First, you must tell your partner about your HIV status. You are putting him at risk by having unprotected sex with him. The longer you hide this from him, the more upset he will be when he finds out the truth. Second, you should see your doctor to ensure that your viral load is undetectable before conceiving. This will minimize the risk of passing HIV to your baby. Finally, it sounds like you need an evaluation by a reproductive endocrinologist, since you have not used contraception in the past year and have not conceived. HIV does not cause infertility, so it is likely that there is another issue preventing you from conceiving.

I don't closely track my periods any more. After doing the math I am fairly certain I had unprotected sex with my husband during ovulation. Seven days later, I experienced what I now think was implantation bleeding and my period is not due for 2 more days (which is 4 days from when I think I had implantation bleeding). I also recall feeling "pregnancy tired" the other day. I didn't think further about it because I had a tubal ligation. But now I wonder, is there any chance I could be pregnant?
