Is it possible to have a successful IVF if the AMH test was done before my cycle and results were low?

I was told to take an AMH test before my cycle began and the results were very low. Can IVF be successful, at 40?

Unfortunately, a low AMH and age of 40 or more greatly decreases your chances of success with IVF. Your AMH reflects that your ovarian reserve (the amount of eggs) is low and egg quality is known to be poorer at 40. That is not to say that there is no chance you could get pregnant from IVF. I would discuss this further with your doctor as there are other options for pregnancy that would be much more successful for you such as using an egg donor or embryo adoption. However, your doctor still may be willing to let you attempt IVF with your own eggs.

It is possible, but your chances for pregnancy are lowered.
