I had my tubes clipped and burned in May 2007. Can I carry a baby to term if I am 42 years old? I am a mother of 3 who is interested in single embryo transfer.
Yes, you can still carry a baby to term if you are 42 years old. Many factors affect the health of any pregnancy, and older age is associated with more problems and/or complications for mothers and babies, but the increased risk is not that much higher for a healthy 42 year old. What is most important is good general health. Women who have normal weight, normal blood pressure, no blood sugar problems, and no heart, lung, liver or kidney problems will generally do well in pregnancy until they are 45 or older. It is important to have good habits of daily living, get good medical care and follow medical advice in order to maximize the chances of a healthy outcome for the mother and baby.
