Where does a same-sex couple begin the conception process?

I have always wanted to be a mother but have always had an irregular period. I'm now 24 and in a relationship with someone of the same sex. We want to start a family but don't know where to begin.

At PREG, we always start with a consultation with one of our caring physicians. Based on you and your partner's history, they will determine what testing you may need, and they will determine what treatment plan may give you the best chance at success, using your input, of course. Same sex couples have many options for attempting conception, including using a sperm donor for inseminations. There are other options available as well. We would recommend both you and your partner attend the initial consultation in an effort to help determine the best plan of care.

The best thing would be a consult with a reproductive specialist. From there, plans can be made to help you achieve your goal.

Soon you will be doing donor insemination. First, you need to have your irregular periods evaluated. The history and physical exam will include searching for clues to excess male hormone and excess weight. If you have polycystic ovary syndrome, appropriate management will be suggested. Then you can begin AID and expect a good outcome within a few months.
