Pregnancy Calendar: First Trimester
Fetal development in the first trimester of pregnancy is significant. Beginning with conception and implantation into the uterus, the fetus quickly begins growing and developing the basic body functions that will support it throughout its entire life. In just 12 weeks it grows from a fetus the size of a grain of salt to a four-inch-long embryo complete with a heartbeat, functioning stomach and internal organs, brain waves, fingerprints, and more. Since all of this happens on a small scale, many mothers-to-be like to monitor their baby?s growth to start connecting with their little one from the beginning, even if they can?t feel those tiny movements yet.
